C R I S T I N A   G A R C Í A   R O D E R O : HE/SHE/THEY

Cristina García Rodero celebrates the beauty of group performance and ritual in her work España Oculta. La Roja, Villafranca explores the importance of costume and the body within ritual. Masking and recreating a figure through imaginative aesthetics distances a person from their corporeal self, allowing their body to enter the sphere of ceremony. Ritual and performance normalize abnormality in an accepted group setting by blurring one’s physical identity.
