When considering the work of any accomplished artist, we tend to take an expansive view of their work over time. We trace continuities and seek to glean from the arc of their ascent the long-standing tenets of their thought, rather than the possibly transitory lessons of single objects. Manfred Müller seems not only amenable to this consideration of his art, but solicitous of it. Each piece in his mercurial oeuvre is persuasive while standing as its own referent. Yet we find within these objects intimations of other phenomena - indices emphatic in their pointing yet enigmatic in their significance. When installed together, under Müller's guidance, their particular resonant frequencies swell to inhabit the venue-cum-echo chamber with a harmony that surmounts its constituents. Müller's constructions push beyond their immediate confines, often literally, and seem to draw ever more disparate sources into a broadening web of reference. The individual works are loci of Müller's expansive ideation, or postcards from purely conceptual locales.
