| Describing
himself as a "butterfly collector in search of the perfect specimen," Jim
Dow searches along old highways and in forgotten communities for artifacts
of a vanishing era, capturing America's endangered species of small-town
movie theaters, billiard halls, diners, masonic lodges, barber shops, and
dance halls. His affinity for Americana led him to tackle a quintessentially
American subject ball parks and sports arenas and to photograph
over two hundred American courthouses. His "specimens," while devoid of
the human figure itself, nonetheless carry relics of the human spirit.
